About a year ago we threw out our old Hoover and bought the Oreck XL Deluxe Vacuum:  in fact we bought two of them, one for upstairs and one for downstairs.   They really do work as advertised!   It is surprising how light they are, and how quiet they are, but boy do they clean!   The portable canister vac that comes with the upright vacuum is really needed because the upright does not have any attachments like hoses or anything.   This vacuum really works, and has not given us any problems!  We also got the Air purifier, another great product.
